Food Fight!!!

I have found myself in a place I didn't want to be. Not a terrible thing, I just feel very unqualified. I am in charge of the spring fundraiser at my children's elementary school. We are having a carnival with games & a silent auction as well.
We have decided to have a specific activity at the carnival for fundraising purposes that should prove to be very popular. An organized food fight. I'm excited about it, I think it will be a lot of fun. We have the location secured, but here is the question of the week:
In an environment like we find ourselves in these days, what kind of items are appropriate for a "food fight?" Expired food items? "Faux" food items?
We want to have fun, raise funds for our school, but we don't want to be wasteful or provide an example of wastefulness.
Any ideas, gentle readers?

Why I Love Being a Mom

Being a Mom is a wonderful thing. It's one of the hardest and most rewarding jobs in the world. And it is a job. But I LOVE it. There are so many reasons I love being a mom. I wanted to share some of them with you.

* I love being the parent my children ask to kill the bugs.

* I love having to leave 30 minutes early to get anywhere 10 minutes late.

* I love having dirt stains on left front thigh and left butt cheek all during sports season from the monkey on my hip.

* I love being called "Mrs. [child's name]'s Mom."

* I'm proud that I don't have stretch marks.

* It makes me smile when my sister in law (Marvelous Marie) tells me she loves my "relaxed parenting style" and wishes she could do the same.

* I love slobbery kisses.

* I love giving spit baths.

* I love having to listen carefully to my four year old's word to understand. It has helped me become a better listener.

* I love being able to stomach Chicken McNuggets & pizza on a regular basis.

* I love that when I get in my minivan after my husband drives it the Hannah Montana CD is cranked up too loud.

* I love that when I go to bed at night I am so tired I can hardly move.

* I love that my son is still excited to tell me about his day.

* I love that my daughter will still hug & kiss me in public.

* I love having 3 little people look up to me like I can do no wrong and like I am their biggest hero in the world.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms, Grandmas, Mothers To Be & Moms at Heart. Have a wonderful day dedicated just to you.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

I don't know if I've ever mentioned it before, but Number One Son is an incredibly picky eater. Trying new things is not on his "To Do" list.

Tonight was lasagna night and as I placed everyone's plate in front of them, I fully expected to hear, "Oh maaaaan!" as he saw what we were eating. Instead, I heard nothing and when I returned with milk glasses I saw a strange, unexpected sight.

Number One Son was eating his lasagna. Wait, let me rephrase that. He was chowing down. I made a big deal and demanded he tell me who he was and what he had done with my son.

But he was definitely smiling from ear to ear when he realized just how pleased his mom was.

She Did It!

This was going to be a wordless weekend, but I had say something about this photo.

My beautiful daughter Queenie is 7 going on 15. Really, she is quite teenager-ish about some of the things she does. Like her room. It's an ongoing battle to get her to keep her room clean. No matter how many times I pick up it just gets cluttered again. I honestly don't know how she does it.

Anyway, her cousin came to visit this weekend and spent the night Friday. I told her that KD was coming and she needed to get her room straight. "Don't worry, I'll come help you if you'll just get started." Well, when I went into her room to check on her progress, she was done!

Apparently cousins need to come sleep over more often.
This is how her floor looks this weekend. She cleaned up on her own with no help from Mom at all.

Ice Cold Milk and an Oreo Cookie

After-school snack time in the Boss Lady household can be challenging. Three bossy kids, three bossy tastes, one bossy boss. What's for snack?!?

Yesterday, it was popcorn, it tamed all three savages quite well. Today it was Oreo cookies. I don't give those out often, but I was feeling warm and mommy-ish.

Now, I guess you might have figured out by now that all 3 of my boss-kins march to their own very distinctive drummers. And we love it that way. It keeps us on our toes and I know I have 3 very creative and intelligent people growing up around me.

Well, today while Number One Son & Queenie are contently eating their 3 Oreo cookies while finishing their homework, The Flying Monkey is sitting down, staring at his 3 Oreos.

The Flying Monkey: "Mommy. Please, I have some milk, please?"
Me: "You want some milk?"
TFM: "Yes. To dip my cookie."
Me: "Oh. OK."

No one in our house eats our Oreos that way. We all just bite into them, with the exception of Number One Son, who opens them and eats the filling first.

So, I bring a cup of milk to The Flying Monkey and watch him dip his first cookie in the milk. Dip, dip, dip, shake. Bite. Bite. Look. Bite. He does this with each cookie until he's done. He then takes his cup into the kitchen and puts it on the counter.

Me: "Wait, you still have some milk, finish it."
TFM: "No, it has cookie in it. I done."

My 3 year old has mastered the Oreo Dunk. His father is so proud.

A Little Snowstorm

In the south, we deal with a "little snowstorm" a bit differently than people in other areas of the country!
Here we are, having another snow day! It started this morning and it's still coming down!
We're currently getting warm by the fire and getting ready for dinner.

I hope you enjoy this glimpse what our day looked like.

Snow makes everything beautiful
Queenie threw some snowballs
Did you just throw that at me?The boys were being boys & enjoying the snowfallOur back deck @
11 AM@ 1:30 PM
@ 3 PM
It's dinnertime and the snow is still coming! I wonder what photos I can post tomorrow! We take what we can get down here! Enjoy your weekend!

SNOW!

We live in the Southeast, where it never snows. Well, every once in a while, but it hasn't snowed (and "stuck") here in about 6 years.

But it did today!!! Yippee! And we sure do hope it keeps snowing so we can have a super fun SNOW DAY tomorrow!!!! The kids are dying to make snow angels! They tried today, but there wasn't enough snow on the ground and it got dark too soon!

It is very possible the city could shut down because like I said, it never snows here and I'm sure all the stores were packed with people buying milk and bread. I don't know how those 2 things help you in a "snowstorm" but they seem to be what people grab.

What would you do on a rarely seen snow day?

Roger That

Number One Son, Queenie & The Flying Monkey were running through the house after getting dressed for bed tonight.

Walkie Talkies received from Santa Claus were being played with very loudly. I intercepted a walkie talkie from Number One Son as he ran through the den and past me.

Me (into the walkie talkie): "NO RUNNING."
Queenie (responding through the walkie talkie): "Roger that, Momma."
